Benches for Kate

Recycle your plastic to turn it into benches for our schools & parks in memory of Kate

The community’s response to Benches for Kate has been overwhelming! So much so that we have maxed out the benches that we can get from Trex at this time. THANK YOU!

We will continue to pick up & recycle the plastic from the collection bins through the end of February. On March 1, the collection bins will be removed.

PLEASE continue to recycle your sheet plastic at local Jewel & Mariano’s stores. Although we are taking a break from collecting for benches, we want to continue the positive impact on the environment! We will keep this page active with information on plastic film recycling & updates on bench installation. We are continuing to look for other programs to help Benches for Kate share the importance of recycling!

How to Participate

We are asking the community to save your plastic bags & film to recycle into benches in memory of our daughter, Kate. Collection bins will be placed around Park Ridge for you to drop off materials. Once we collect 500 pounds of plastic in a 6 month period, Trex will give us a bench. It is that easy!

Collection bins are at Centennial Fitness Center, Centennial Activity Center & Maine Park. Click here for detailed maps & facility hours.
